Sarah Statue Dedication

On Oct. 9 The Sarah Community dedicated a new statue of its namesake, Sarah, wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. Officiating was Jacqueline Motzel, FSM, former president of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.

The Sarah Community, a senior living continuing care community, was founded by and serves five orders of religious sisters as well as the general public. BSI constructed the original campus and subsequent additions and renovations, including the new Anna House in 2011.

The Community commissioned Marie Henderson, RSM, to sculpt the statue. Sr. Marie is a member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, one of the Community’s five orders, and teaches architecture at the University of Detroit. She spoke at the dedication.

BSI, overseen by Superintendent Haus Truelove, erected the statue on Sunday morning. Haus served as superintendent for the construction of Anna House. The company also provided the concrete base and the plaque. In attendance at the ceremony, in addition to Haus, were Rosemary and Joe Shaughnessy.
